CROW's annual pilgrimage to Dinton Pastures where we joined the site's own volunteers on this occasion to clear fallen poplar trees from a water meadow. The smaller branches were to be burnt while the remainder cut to length - mainly it must be admitted with the aid of a chain saw - and then split into logs.
With axe and maul the volunteers set about splitting the logs.
The logs were to be used in the wood burners which have been installed in the cafes at both Dinton Pastures and California County Park.
A very enjoyable task, the only regret being no photo was taken of the Hereford cattle which were grazing in the meadow and came to inspect our activities at the start of the task but then departed not to be seen again for the rest of the day.
