Snelsmore Common, Newbury ~ Pond clearance

While many know of the existence of the ponds at Snelsmore Common few seem aware of this which is believed to be the remains of an old water tower. Newbury & Thatcham Green Gym's task was to remove debris from the water and clear vegetation from around the edge. It is understood there are plans to line the pond.

At one time CROW was a regular visitor to Snelsmore but its distance from Reading has meant that in recent years it has been regarded as being 'off limits'. This was therefore Econet's first task at the site since 2009.

The group had not been advised as to what the task would be and the assumption was that they would be clearing birch scrub. It was therefore luck rather than judgement that resulted in a number of the group having wellies.

Great job! Many thanks to our volunteers: Anita, Barry, Barry, Bob, Denise, Euan, Helena, Julie and Toby.
