Five a Day Market Garden, Englefield ~ Garden maintenance

On what was to be one of the hottest days of the year so far, the task of replacing the pergola roof, started earlier in the month, resumed.

An early start, nine o'clock, to avoid at least some of the heat inevitably meant an early coffee break.

Elsewhere other volunteers cleared weeds from beneath the fruit trees, taking advantage of the shade the trees offered.

Twelve thirty and with the temperature steadily rising and all the material for the roof used, there's just time for some lunch before everyone heads home for a shower and a quiet afternoon out of the sun.

You might, of course, take a quick walk around the garden as you depart.
