Newtown Common, Newtown ~ Birch clearance and path maintenance

Since becoming part of Econet, members of Newbury & Thatcham Green Gym have worked every other week at either Burghclere or Newtown Common, both heathland sites located just outside Newbury in North Hampshire.

Here on Newtown Common birch scrub is a major problem but as these photographs amply demonstrate, a group such as Green Gym can have a major impact in maintaining the character of the Common and hence the wildlife it supports.

Well done to all our volunteers who turnout each Monday to carry out this valuable work.
