The Fairground, Mortimer ~ Gorse clearance

This was our first visit to Mortimer. Unlike Padworth Common where the gorse is an impenetrable wall of thorns about 6 feet in height, clearance from the Fairground was more like coppicing, the gorse being some 8 feet tall, bare at the base with stems up to 3 inches in diameter.

Pictured here is the CROW work party plus Barry from Mortimer who guided the task. From the left: John, Terry, Jill, Judith, Mike, Phil, Margaret, Alan, Barry and Matt. John W was also with CROW but managed to make his escape before the photo session.

And again... The cut gorse, the product of our labours, can be seen stacked behind us.

Our thanks to Peter Blagden of Stratfield Mortimer Parish Council who arranged the task and took the photo's.

We're due to return to this site in Febrary 2009.
